Gym shoes

If your child does not have gym shoes, please send some in.  They do not need to be new, just washed and clean.  We need gym shoes to keep the gym floor in good shape for when we have P.E. and inside recess.  Also, flip flops and dressy shoes are not good for P.E. class. Thank you.

Fundraiser

There is an on-line code for “non-perishable” foods/items.  Syra12 is the code to put in.  The other needed info for ordering on-line is the “sellers” name so that it can be tracked to the student and the number of items they ordered.  There is also a “closeout section” on-line and the items ordered from this section will  go toward our totals.

-order forms due 9/5
-delivery 10/9

Ipads

Please make sure iPads are charged nightly if they come home.  We only have 4 charging stations and that is often not enough to keep our devices charged during the day because several come in with dead batteries.  Thanks for helping us do our best school work!

Homework

Students should be reading 15 minutes nightly on weeknights for homework.  Word work will start Tuesday.  Word lists for home practice will come home Tuesday or Wednesday.  There is a packet of practice pages and a separate instruction sheet.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Upcoming Events:

  • September 3rd:  No school…Labor Day
  • September 4th:  BYC starts up. Kids will be transported to old SES like last year.

Newsletter 8-17-18

  • Please take some time to fill out the parent homework that you picked up at back to school night or that your child brought home in their green if you didn’t make it to back to school night.  That helps me get to know your child better and plan our year.  Thanks!
  • We do have snack time in the morning as our lunch is at 11:55.   Your child may bring a healthy individual snack if you wish.  No candy, cookies, or junk food, please.
  • Please make sure iPads are charged nightly.

Homework

  • Homework starts next week.  I don’t require much homework that needs to be returned.  For the current time, your child’s homework is reading. Students may read books, library books, audiobooks, ebooks (like epic books and tumblebooks – I’m hoping to have those set up on ipads in the upcoming weeks) or anything appropriate that they are interested in.
  • Students are to read 15 minutes each night.

  • In the next few weeks we will add math fact practice and word work practice to homework.

Upcoming Events:

August 22nd:  Fundraiser kickoff

First day

We had a great first day!  We read lots of books, talked about our routines and procedures, had a snack, worked on our own and with partners, and finished out the day with recess.  A few things to be aware of for tomorrow:

  • We do have snack time in the morning as our lunch is at 11:55.   Your child may bring a healthy individual snack if you wish.  No candy, cookies, or junk food, please.
  • Please make sure iPads are charged nightly.  We had several dead iPads today and not enough charging stations to get them charged.  Thanks.
  • Please have a regular routine in place for dismissal.  In the rare event your plans change, please send a note, call the office, or email me about it at jhays@wawasee.k12.in.us in the morning. Please do not message me in the afternoon with your change of plan.  I am busy focused on students do not usually have an afternoon break and do not always have time to check my messages.  I don’t want your child to miss out on important changes.  Please try to plan in advance so your child knows when they come to school what they are doing for dismissal.  Thank you.
  • Please keep toys at home.  We do not need toys at recess or as a distraction during class time.
  • If your child has a birthday coming up, you may send in treats any day that week that is convenient for you if you like.
  • Please take some time to fill out the parent homework that you picked up at back to school night or that your child brought home today if you didn’t make it to back to school night.  That helps me get to know your child better and plan events for our year.  Thanks!

Thank you for all the supplies you sent in for us to use!  I greatly appreciate your support!
