Hays Corner Parent Teacher Conferences October 8-10, 2019

Please sign up for a time that works for you to come to SES room 204 and meet to talk about your child’s progress in school this year.  You will be asked for your email when you sign up and you will get a reminder via email the day before your scheduled conference.

• Parents should be receiving an email from the Pizza Hut Book it Program.  We are doing digital book it this year and the rewards come via email.  Please accept the book it request so your child can receive their rewards.  If your child returns 3 of 4 Weekly reading logs each month they will earn a free Pizza Hut personal pizza!  Book it starts in October.

Field trip- Need some VOLUNTEERS!

We are taking a field trip to the WACF on SR 13 October 8.  I can use a few chaperones.  You can either ride the bus with us or meet us there.  Our program ( we will be there with Helfrich’s class) is from 12:30-2:30.  We will be eating lunch at school as usual.  Please send me a message or a note if you’d like to be a chaperone and I’ll get back with you.  You will need to have a background check on file with the school and I’ll get you one to fill out if you did not do it at registration this year.  We need a new one on file each year for volunteers.

Snack time-

Students can bring their own healthy snacks for our morning snack time each day if they wish.  Please send healthy snacks (no cookies or candy, please).  Thank you.

HOMEWORK

• STUDENTS ARE TO READ 20 MINUTES EACH NIGHT.

• Your child is bringing home a reading log each week to fill out and return on Fridays. 

• PRACTICE WORD WORK (SPELLING WORDS) AT HOME.

• Practice word work (spelling) at home.  Attached to the word list that came home last Friday are some practice pages/activities.
• Choose at least three activities to do each week.
• Turn them in by test day (9/20) to earn bonus class dojo points!

9/11 e-learning day

Wednesday is an e-learning day.  E-learning assignments are posted and ready in seesaw Activities on  your child’s ipad.  We will be talking about the assignments in class Tuesday so your child should know what to do.

Please locate the iPad charger so your child has enough battery life to complete their assignments.  IPads will come home on Tuesday night.  They should come back to school Thursday morning, fully charged and ready for our work for the day.

Nature scavenger hunt hike

We went on a nature scavenger hunt hike in the woods behind our school! Ask your child what they found. Here’s one thing we saw.

Newsletter 9/6/19

• New homework starts this week!  Please read the homework section below carefully.  Your child will have their word work (spelling) packet and their reading log in their folder for next week. Please take time to look them over this weekend.  Email me at jhays@wawasee.k12.in.us if you have any questions.
• Please sign up for remind messages.  Text @hayscorner to the number 81010 to get reminder messages throughout the year about important classroom things.
• We have our first e-learning day this Wednesday, 9/11.  Teacher will be having a teacher work day.  Students will NOT be at school but will have e-learning assignments to complete.  Students will be bringing home ipads to work on those assignments.  Please locate the ipad charger to be ready!

• We are adding word work (Spelling) practice to homework.
• Several times a week we will be doing word work in class.  Not all students in our class have the same lists.
• Students will bring home their lists approximately every two weeks.  We’ll have a word work test usually every other Friday if there are no schedule conflicts.
• Word work tests consist of:
  5 words from each list (10 words total)
  3 dictation sentences (Sentences should be written with correct capital letters and end marks, and the words from the list should be spelled correctly.)
• You can help by having your child practice at home.  Attached to the word list that comes home will be some practice pages.
• Choose at least three activities to do each week.
• Turn them in by test day to bonus class dojo points!Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you.
